Yesterday's Grapefruit League game between the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals was rained out, but there was still plenty of news coming out of Lakeland.  Manager Brad Ausmus said pitcher Justin Verlander would be on the mound to start his seventh consecutive Opening Day for Detroit against the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park.  Meanwhile, shortstop Jose Iglesias confirmed that he has been diagnosed with stress fractures in both of his legs, a condition he has been dealing with for some time.  Today, the Tigers have split-squad games, hosting the Toronto Blue Jays in Lakeland and visiting the Mets in Port St. Lucie.  Both games are set with 1:05pm first pitches.

On the ice, the Red Wings will host Toronto tonight in an Original Six matchup at Joe Louis Arena.  The puck will drop at 7:30pm.

Senior guard - Deshaun Thrower of Muskegon High School was announced yesterday as the 2014 recipient of the Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award for the state of Michigan.  West Michigan still has 3 area boys high school basketball teams that are still alive on the Wendy's Road to the Breslin Center, and they will all be in Quarterfinal action tonight:

Class A - 7pm - #1 Muskegon vs. Ann Arbor Skyline at Lansing Eastern High School

Class B - 7pm - #1 Godwin Heights vs. Benton Harbor at Middleville High School

*This game will be broadcast live starting at 6:45pm with Bret Bakita

Finally, Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond will not be in the lineup tomorrow as Detroit begins a four-game western road trip.  Drummond injured his head and neck when colliding with Roy Hibbert on Saturday night in the Pistons overtime loss to Indiana.
