The Detroit Tigers lost to the Chicago White Sox (3-1) last night at Comerica Park to open up their 4-game series. Starter Anibal Sanchez held the White Sox scoreless until the seventh inning, when he gave up three runs. Sanchez was charged with the loss, going six and one third innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five. Tonight, Justin Verlander goes to the hill for Detroit....First pitch is 7:08pm.
In other Tiger news, outfielder/infielder J.D. Martinez from Triple-A Toledo. Martinez will take the roster spot of reliever Luke Putkonen, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow.
The Red Wings continue their first-round playoff series tonight in Hockeytown with Boston. The series is tied at one-game a piece with the puck dropping tonight at 7:30pm. Also, team officials said yesterday that defenseman Jonathan Ericsson may have the last three pins taken out of his injured finger this week.
The Detroit Lions begin a voluntary, three day mini-camp today. Yesterday, the Lions signed cornerbacks Aaron Hester and Nate Ness.
The West Michigan Whitecaps lost last night (7-4) to Bowling Green at 5\3rd. Ballpark. The two teams will be back at it this afternoon with a Noon first pitch.
And finally in high school news, BCAM Hall of Fame boys basketball coach Steve Majerle announced his retirement yesterday afternoon from the helm at Grand Rapids Christian High School. Majerle said a main reason for his retirement is to spend more time watching his 4 children compete in athletics at the high school and college levels.
