The 37th Annual 5\3rd. River Bank Run came to a close over the weekend after a picture perfect day on Saturday morning in downtown Grand Rapids.  Your 25K Men's Open winner was 22-year-old Samson Gezahai of Eritrea with a time of 1:14:07.  Christo Landry finished runner-up, but for the second straight year claimed the American National Championship with a time of 1:14:18, which tied an American record!  The Women's 25K Open and American National champion was Kellyn Johnson-Taylor with a time of 1:25:25. 

On the diamond, Eduardo Nunez singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning yesterday as the Minnesota Twins rallied past Detroit (4-3) in the rubber match of their weekend series.  Joba Chamberlain took the loss in relief of Robbie Ray, who allowed four hits across six scoreless innings.  The Tigers travel to take on the Baltimore Orioles tonight...first pitch is 7:05pm.  Rick Porcello (5-1) will get the start for Detroit. 

The Grand Rapids Griffins now trail their best-of-seven Calder Cup playoff series with the Texas Stars (0-2) after falling (4-0) Saturday night in Austin.  Game #3 of the series is tomorrow night at Van Andel Arena with pregame coverage beginning at 6:40pm - Faceoff is set for 7pm live here on Newsradio WOOD 1300 & 106.9 FM.

In NFL Draft news, the University of Michigan saw only one player get drafted on Saturday.  WR-Jeremy Gallon went 244th. overall to the New England Patriots.  He hauled in 89 catches for over 1,300 yards and 9 TDs last season with the Wolverines.  Also, Matt Armstrong, a four-year starter and All-American center at Grand Valley State, signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints. 

The West Michigan Whitecaps had their 6-game losing streak snapped Saturday night by Lansing and then were off yesterday.  The Caps will open up a series with the Great Lakes Loons tonight in Midland - First pitch is 7:05pm. 

And finally, congratulations to head coach Keith Guy and the Muskegon Big Reds varsity basketball team as today, they will be presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy from  Muskegon, which finished #30 in the final rankings, is one of 10 schools to be honored.  The team will receive its trophy at a sports assembly at 3pm today at Muskegon High School.
