The Grand Rapids Griffins completed their climb out of what was an (0-2) series hole with a second straight home win over the Texas Stars (3-2) last night at Van Andel Arena.  Jeff Hoggan, David McIntyre and Andrej Nestrasil all scored for the Griffins and goaltender Petr Mrazek was the game's #1 star with a 33 save performance for his 20th. playoff win.  Game #5 comes up tomorrow night with pregame coverage beginning at 6:40pm...Faceoff at 7pm live with Bob Kaser from Van Andel Arena. 

On the diamond, Miguel Cabrera singled in two runs and Rajai Davis homered as the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with a (7-5) win at Camden Yards yesterday.  Justin Verlander gave up 5 runs in six innings to improve to 5-and-2 with the win.  Joe Nathan notched his 10th. save.  Detroit is off today and then opens a three-game series against Boston tomorrow night at Fenway Park. 

Stan Van Gundy is the new head coach and president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons.  He was named to those positions yesterday and will be formally introduced at a press conference today.  The 54-year-old Van Gundy is (371-208) as a head coach, guiding the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009. 

Michigan State center Adreian Payne is recovering from mononucleosis.  He tells ESPN that he played with undiagnosed mono starting in January and didn't find out about it until just last month while preparing for the NBA Draft. 

In college football news, MSU and Notre Dame are trying to keep their football rivalry going.  The additions of Maryland and Rutgers to the Big Ten are making scheduling difficult, with just five meetings planned over the next 14 seasons.  One of them is a tentative neutral-site game in 2023. 

The West Michigan Whitecaps lost their series finale with Great Lakes yesterday (6-2).  The Caps will now return home to Fifth-Third Ballpark tonight to open up a series with the Lake County Captains.  First pitch is 6:35pm.
