The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil kicks off today with a match between the host nation and Croatia.  ESPN 96.1, your exclusive radio home for the 2014 World Cup in West Michigan, will have live coverage of this match beginning at 4pm this afternoon.  The U.S. Men's National Team will face Ghana in it's opening match on Monday. 

The Miami Heat are looking to even up the NBA Finals tonight when they host the San Antonio Spurs in Game #4.  The Spurs won Game #3 in Miami on Tuesday night (111-92) scoring 41 points in the opening quarter.  Tonight's game coverage will begin at 8pm with tip-off set for 9pm right here on ESPN 96.1. 

The 114th U.S. Open Championship gets underway this morning at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.  Phil Mickelson has finished second at the U.S. Open six times in his career, and Mickelson, if he gets the win this weekend, will complete the career Grand Slam. The White Sox beat up on the Tigers last night in Chicago (8-2) as Justin Verlander allowed seven runs in five-and-two thirds innings.  Verlander is now (6-6) on the season.  Detroit will send Max Scherzer to the mound tonight against Chicago's Chris Sale...first pitch is 8:10pm. 

The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association has named defenseman Danny DeKeyser the 2013-14 Red Wings Rookie of the Year.  DeKeyser appeared in 65 games last year and had 23 points, a plus-10 rating and 30 penalty minutes. 

After a two-hour plus rain delay last night, the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-game winning streak was snapped last night by the Great Lakes Loons - (7-0).  The Loons and Caps will square off again tonight at 7:05pm, and all-star pitcher Buck Farmer will get the start. 

Finally, congratulations to two West Michigan girls high school soccer teams who advanced to Championship Saturday last night.  In Division 3, Unity Christian shutout Paw Paw (4-0) to advance to Saturday's state title game against Detroit Country Day at Mason High School at Noon.  In Division 4, the Squires of Calvin Christian defeated Western Michigan Christian last night (3-1) to advance to Saturday's state championship game at 3pm in Mason against Clarkston Everest/WOLL.
