Thanks to an eight-run fifth inning, the Detroit Tigers opened a four-game set with the Royals last night with a (16-4) win in Kansas City. Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Torii Hunter each had three RBI. Starter Drew Smyly got the win. They now lead the Royals by five-and-a-half games in the AL Central. Tonight, Anibal Sanchez gets the nod for Detroit and Kansas City counters with Danny Duffy. First pitch is 8:10pm. In other Tigers news, pitcher Rick Porcello came in third in the All-Star Final Vote. White Sox starter Chris Sale won the final spot on the American League roster and Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo took first place in the National League Final Vote.

Yesterday, team officials announced training camp will open on July 28th and the public will be able to attend eight practices beginning August 1. Detroit opens preseason play on August 9th when they host the Cleveland Browns.
