The Detroit Tigers road woes continued with an (11-6) loss to the Pirates in Pittsburgh last night.  Justin Verlander was charged with the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on four hits while striking out the side in the first inning.  Verlander did not return in the second inning because of shoulder soreness.  He will have an MRI and be re-evaluated today.  Tonight, the Tigers send Robbie Ray to the mound to get the start against Pittsburgh....first pitch is 7:05pm.

In other Tigers news, Buck Farmer, 23, who was the fifth-round pick of Detroit in 2013, will start Wednesday in place of Rick Porcello.  Farmer started this season with the West Michigan Whitecaps and was (10-5) with a 2.60 ERA in 18 starts this season.  Then he was promoted to Double-A Erie.

Speaking of the Whitecaps, they were off yesterday in Midwest League action, but will open up a 3-game series tonight against South Bend at Fifth-Third Ballpark...first pitch is 7pm.

Lastly, in college hockey news, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University will face off outdoors for the fourth time as they meet in the Hockey City Classic at Soldier Field in Chicago early next year.  Western Michigan and Miami of Ohio will also take the ice in Chicago on February 7th, 2015.
