David Freese hit a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Angels picked up a (2-1) win over the Tigers.  Joba Chamberlin gave up the late solo shot to Freese to fall to 1-and-4 for Detroit.  The Angels took 3 out of 4 games in the series over the weekend.  Detroit has today off to try and regroup after their poor series and will start a six-game homestand tomorrow night against the White Sox.

The Detroit Lions kick off their training camp in Allen Park today.  Defensive end Ziggy Ansah plus wide receiver Golden Tate and TJ Jones will begin the practices on the physically unable to perform list.  Head coach Jim Caldwell say he isn't sure when Ansah will be able to return from his offseason shoulder surgery.

Big Ten Media Day starts its two-day event today in Chicago.  Michigan's head coach Brady Hoke will get behind the podium for about 10 minutes.  MSU head coach Mark Dantonio will also meet with the media at some point over the two days.

Also, U-M football snagged a big verbal commitment over the weekend from 2015 WR-Brian Cole of Saginaw Heritage High School.  Cole is considered one of the top 2 players in the state of Michigan and is listed as a 4-star athlete by Rivals.com.

Finally, the West Michigan Whitecaps beat Kane County twice over the weekend.  They'll go for the sweep today outside of Chicago with a 1pm first pitch.
