After a day off yesterday, the Detroit Tigers are back at it tonight opening up a 3-game series with the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.  Anibal Sanchez will get the start for the Tigers at (7-4), while Chicago will counter with Jose Quintana at (5-7).  The Tigers lead Kansas City by 5 games atop the AL Central. 

The first practice of training camp for the Detroit Lions is in the books under new head coach Jim Caldwell, and the biggest story from Allen Park yesterday was the future contract of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.  The "Free Press" is reporting that team president Tom Lewand says he expects a deal to get done, but he is putting off talks until after the season. 

Michigan and Michigan State are gearing up for the upcoming college football season, and both Brady Hoke and Mark Dantonio talked about their respective programs yesterday in Day One of the Big Ten Media Days in Chicago. 

The Red Wings have signed forward Tomas Tatar to a new 3-year contract.  The 23-year-old had 19 goals and 20 assists in 73 games last season.  Tatar ranked second on the team in goals and third with a plus-12rating. 

In Midwest League action, the Whitecaps pulled off the road sweep of Kane County yesterday afternoon with a (2-1) victory.  The Caps return home to take on Lake County tonight at Fifth-Third Ballpark.  First pitch is 7pm.
