The Michigan State football team ended the Bowl Championship Series era ranked #3 in the country last season, and this year, they'll start the season at #8 as the first official Associated Press college football poll came out yesterday.  Four Big Ten teams were ranked in the Top 25 with Ohio State being the highest rated at #5, Michigan is not ranked.

Zak Irvin posted 27 points and 11 rebounds to guide the U-M basketball team to a (99-60) win over the Perugia Select Team in an exhibition game in Rome, Italy yesterday.  Caris LeVert added 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Finally, the West Michigan Whitecaps won a (7-5) extra innings affair yesterday in Midland over the Great Lakes Loons.  The Caps return home tonight to Fifth-Third Ballpark to open up a 6-game homestand against Lansing.  First pitch is set for 7pm.
