Congratulations to Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez, yesterday he was named the American League Player of the Week.  In seven games last week, he hit .444 with 4 home runs, three doubles, 11 RBI and six runs scored.  Detroit will open a three game set with the Texas Rangers tonight in Arlington.  First pitch is set for 8:05pm as Drew Smyly will face Colby Lewis in tonight's pitching match-up.  The series also marks the first trip back to Texas for Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler, who spent his first eight years in the majors with the Rangers.

Former Red Wing players goalie Dominik Hasek and forward Mike Modano will enter the Hockey Hall of Fame this fall as part of the six-member Class of 2014.  Hasek won the Stanley Cup with the Wings as a starter in 2002 and as a backup in 2008.  Also, Daniel Alfredsson is not ready to retire at age 41.  He has indicated a desire to return for his 19th NHL season and is talking with the Red Wings.  Detroit is interested, but much depends on his price and whether they make any moves at this weekend's entry draft in Philadelphia.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are shopping the first overall selection for Thursday's NBA Draft.  Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio says the Cavs are actively looking for a trade partner for the top pick.  Among the teams mentioned are the Jazz, Sixers and Magic.

And after a day off, the West Michigan Whitecaps will open up a series with the Lansing Lugnuts tonight in the capital city....first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
