Newaygo County's emergency manager estimates a total of $4 million in private property damage from the flooding earlier this month. 

The Muskegon River rose as much as four feet above flood stage along some parts of its course.  Four hundred homes were damaged.

Michigan State Police also advise that you should be prepared to find damage when you get to your vacation cottage up north.
