Severe thunderstorms have been few so far this season, but winds were whipping this afternoon in west Michigan.
A tree fell onto the left lane of westbound I-96 around 3:10 p.m. Monday, according to Ottawa County Central Dispatch. A Sheriff's cruiser went to the scene and signaled the trouble for oncoming traffic, slowing its pace through the area.
Crews were being sent to Knapp Forest Elementary in the Forest Hills Schools district this afternoon. District transportation staff said wires were hanging low with no sparking as changing weather conditions, Grand Rapids crews said a line came down in the Grand Avenue neighborhood.
Storm Team 8 said the sticky, breezy conditions should remain through early Tuesday morning.
