Incidents of assault topped the list of crimes reported by the Grand Rapids Police Department through most of the holiday weekend.



Of the more than 130 violations ranging from homicide to motor vehicle theft, assault topped the list with 43 incidents reported from June 26 to July 5 by the Grand Rapids Police Department.



Between Thursday and Saturday, Grand Rapids Police reported three arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol against 16 cases of assault.



Michigan State Police last week said they were taking a zero-tolerance policy on traffic safety ahead of the long holiday weekend.



Michigan State Police said the official July 4th weekend began 6 pm Thursday and ended 11:59pm.

Grand Rapids police had no data available for Sunday.
