BBB warns of new Michigan phone scam

The Better Business Bureau said Friday there's a telephone lottery scam that cost one resident in Michigan more than $10,000.

The BBB is warning of a scam where victims are told they won $350,000 in sweepstakes, but need to secure their winnings with a deposit in Bank of America.

A Lansing area resident told the BBB the call came from Jay Adams of American Award Protection Agency and involves bank deposits into a bank account the consumer watchdog says is legitimate.

The victim in the case is out $10,500.

"The consumer did contact the FBI, but he reports he was told that because $10,500 is a relatively small amount, there was nothing they could do," the BBB said.
