Beware Of Fake Court Of Appeals E-mail
Posted February 11th, 2014 @ 1:30pm by Chuck LaTour, WOOD Radio news team

If you receive an e-mail claiming to be from the Michigan Court of Appeals, be careful.

WOOD TV reports several states are reporting similar scams. The e-mail reads in part, "Letter of acknowledgement. Hereby you are advised that we have received your complaint. Shortly after we receive your complaint confirmation we will initiate a trial."

The recipient is then told to click on a hyperlink to "confirm your complaint." These e-mails are NOT from the Michigan Court of Appeals.

Similar scams have been reported in other states. The real Michigan Court of Appeals says it is is a scam, possibly designed to load malware or spyware onto the victim’s computer. Do not click on the link."

If you receive this scam then report it to law enforcement and to abuse@michigan.gov.
