A well-known west Michigan construction contactor has closed its doors. Lamar Construction today announced it was ending all but its structural steel projects. 180 workers will be let go.
Media reports the company said economic conditions were the reason behind the closing.
Lamar Construction has built many well-known buildings in the area, including the Founders Bank and Trust Building, Grand Rapids Christian High School and Calvin College arena.
Lamar has also been the target of what striking workers said were unsafe conditions and mistreatment by the company.
