An artist from Cincinnati wins a $5,000 subsidy in his city to enter ArtPrize here in West Michigan this coming fall.
Competing against 4 other artists, Joe Girandola's idea of stacking more than 1,800 plastic milk crates into a big arch over one of the downtown plazas was considered the best of that bunch.
Girandola's ArtPrize entry will be in the Louis Campau Promenade in Grand Rapids.
The competition was called "Pitch Night Cincinnati" and is the second "Pitch Night" since ArtPrize started one in Minneapolis last year to "reduce the barriers out-of-state artists encounter." Pitch Nights are sponsored by various groups.
