Detroit's M-1 rail project is reportedly in jeopardy.

The planned three-point-three-mile, 137-million-dollar Woodward Avenue streetcar project allegedly faces a funding shortfall of 12-million dollars. Some officials are warning the project could be in jeopardy unless the U.S. Transportation Department kicks in more money.

According to a two-page letter written May 1st to Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Detroit applied for a supplemental 12-point-two-million-dollar grant from the department, which the city did not receive.

Some officials say even without the funds the project would survive, however it may have to be scaled back.
