The Grand Rapids Public Library says another financial shortfall forces it to cut jobs 18 positions that are no longer in the budget.

The union the GRIEU picketed in protest yesterday, telling WOOD TV there are other ways to save money, including their complaint that the library system director recently was awarded a sizable pay hike, about 8-percent.

Still, about a third of the people in those jobs were offered other positions in the city, others retired and only 5 jobs actually were lost.
