Drinking with a sense of caution got a new meaning Wednesday after the company behind Corona pulled the brew off the shelf for glass inside the bottles.
"We are troubled by this development and are working proactively with our distributors, retailers and consumers to resolve this situation as quickly as possible,"Bill Hackett, president of Constellation Brands beer division, said.
The company said it's pulling packages of 12-once clear glass bottles of Corona Extra off the shelf because they may contain small slivers of glass inside. The company said less than 1 percent of the bottles may be contaminated.
A voluntary recall covers six-pack, 12-pack and 18-pack containers of Corona Extra.
More information on the recall, including the production codes, are available here.
