Many automakers are now in a hurry to sign agreements with aluminum suppliers in the wake of Ford Motor Company's new aluminum bodied F-150 pickup truck.

A number of suppliers are reporting a large increase in the use of the weight saving metal as automakers face tough federal standards for fuel economy in the coming years.

Industry officials say there is not enough aluminum available right now to meet the demands of the auto industry because Ford has secured much of the supply.

However, aluminum manufacturers are increasing their capacity to meet the demand.
