About 3.8 million Americans have been out of work for 27 weeks or more, which makes them officially in the category of "long-term unemployed."
In this weekend's Republican radio speech, the GOP chose Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to say it will be private companies that will fix this situation.
"It's not government that creates jobs," he said. Snyder asserted that small business owners and innovators are "the engine of job creation."
President Obama had used his Saturday media message to tell Congress to make laws assuring that women are paid equally with men and to force private companies to pay their workers a higher Minimum Wage.
Snyder said, "It's not about more and bigger government. It's about creating an environment for more and better jobs."
