Lead scoring forward Alden Hirschfeld signed on to a one-year contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the team announced Wednesday.
The former Miami University Red Hawk ranked second in scoring during his tenure during the 2013-14 season with the Toledo Walleye. The 6-foot, 203 pound forward made a brief appearance with the Griffins last year, taking one goal in one assist in 13 appearances.
The 26-year-old Hirshfeld racked up 10 points in 51 career games since going pro. He scored 70 points in 134 games with Miami University.
The signing comes as the Griffins start their search for a new assistant coach. After spending nine seasons as an assistant coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL, former NHLer Jim Paek will now guide Korea's national team.
The first puck drop of the next Griffins season is in October.
