Another feather in the cap for Grand Rapids and west Michigan. Real Estate site Movoto says when it comes to medium sized cities, Grand Rapids is the 8th most exciting city in America.

Movoto surveyed many U.S. cities on an excitement scale that consideres six factors

Nightlife per capita (bars, clubs, comedy, etc.)

Live music venues per capita

Active life options per capita (parks, outdoor activities, etc.)

Fast Food restaurants per capita (the fewer the better)

Percentage of restaurants that are fast food (the lower the better)

Percentage of young residents ages 20 to 34 (the higher the better)

Providence, RI finished first. Grand Rapids finished 8th. Grand Rapids did best in nightlife (14th overall) and non-fast food dining (18th).

Birgit Klohs, President and CEO of the Right Place, INC tells WOOD Radio there have been several surveys highlighting the quality of life in the Greater Grand Rapids area, but this one uses actual scientific data. Klohs says the Movoto study will help Experience GR bring tourist and convention business to Grand Rapids and could help the Right Place lure companies to relocate in Grand Rapids.

"It helps once we get the company interested in locating here because they will bring employees with them. It also helps attract talent, because talent looks at life differently than a business."

According to Movoto's survey, Grand Rapids scores well for nightlife thanks to places like The HopCat and founders Brewing; there’s one such place for every 771 residents. As for the dining rank, Grand Rapids has spots like Yesterdog or Stella’s Lounge to save you from mass-produced fare. Grand Rapids even did great for active life options and music venues, both of which it ranked 25th
