Police offcers who served in Kent County and who died in the line of duty were memorialized Thursday morning at the Grand Rapids police department.
31 officers presented 31 red roses in the ceremony held at the GRPD''s headquarters, with the line stretching back to the the late 1800's.
Grand Rapids FOP Lodge 97 President, Officer Paul Johnson and retiring Police Chief Kevin Belk helped remember those made the ultimate sacrifice.
Johnson told WOOD Radio that the 31 represented officers who had died in Kent County, or who's had family living in Kent County who had requested that his or her death be included.
A traditional bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace, a 21 gun salute, and Taps concluded the ceremony.
