Low Turnout for Police Chief Search Meeting
Posted February 19th, 2014 @ 4:30am by WOOD Radio News Team

Maybe a dozen people showed up for the first of four community meetings as the Grand Rapids City Manager asks local folks what they want in a new Police Chief.

City Manager Greg Sundstrom told the meeting that the next police chief must understand going-in that this is a city demanding "Community Policing" and public comments at the meeting supported that.

Three more community forums are scheduled:

  • Ward 2: Feb. 19 at City-Middle High School, 1720 Plainfield Ave. NE
  • Ward 3: Feb. 20 at G R Ford Middle School, 851 Madison Ave. SE
  • In Spanish: Feb. 27 at Cesar Chavez School, 1205 Grandville Ave. SW

All the meetings begin at 6 p.m. and run to 7:30 p.m.
