Detroit Congressman John Conyers is not on the ballot for this election year, in spite of his intent to be re-elected again, as he had for the past half century.

The Wayne County Clerk says there are too many irregularities in Conyers' nominating petitions, and he came up hundreds of signatures short, mostly because an un-registered voter collected them.

The Michigan Democrat Party chairman put out a statement to say the Party "stands behind him".

While there is no talk of specific appeal action at this point, chairman Lon Johnson says Democrats expect that Conyers "will continue" in Congress.
