The Muskegon County Police Officers Memorial Service will be held this evening.

During this National Peace Officers Memorial Week, area departments invite the public to remember those who sacrificed their lives in duty.

At the Muskegon observance, the guest speaker is Rockford Post Commander, Lt. Christopher McIntire, who worked with Michigan State Police Trooper Butterfield, one of six officers across Michigan to die in service in 2013.   Trooper Butterfield lost his life during a traffic stop near Ludington.

This evening observance includes a musical tribute to the families, friends and co-workers, the Honor Guard, Taps, and the Muskegon Area Pipe and Drums playing Amazing Grace.

The public is welcome at 6 p.m. at Heritage Landing, at the Paul C. Johnson Pavilion.
