Planners of a new West Michigan sports complex said they expect the facility will bring substantial economic stimulus to the area.

An invitation-only grand opening is scheduled Friday for the Art Van Sports Complex, a $7.5 million facility in Rockford.

Mike Guswiler with the West Michigan Sports Commission said the facility is the first of its kind in the region. It features eight fields for baseball or softball and took two years to complete.

Guswiler said the sports complex is expected to bring in more than $20 million to the regional economy during its first five years of operations.
