The Michigan State Police say, beginning today, the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry will have a new look.

State Police say that while the level of detail and information about offenders will remain the same, the web site will receive a facelift. On the site, users can search by city, zip code, county and offender name. Users can perform a radius search for registered offenders up to two miles from an address.

Users can also register to receive an e-mail notification when an offender registers an address within a specified radius of an address.

Anyone who previously received notifications via e-mail will need to re-register on the new site to continue to receive notifications. The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry was established in 1996. It was first available online in 1999.

The registry contains the names, addresses, photograph, vehicle and employment information, and listed offense information of nearly 38,000 registered offenders.

The site is accessible at this link.
