Several hundred gun owners with weapons on full display rallied on the State Capitol lawn in Lansing Tuesday to focus attention on the right to openly carry firearms in the state.

The event, which drew participants from throughout Michigan, was coordinated by the Second Amendment March group. They were carrying firearms ranging from pistols to assault rifles to hunting rifles.

Demonstrators want gun owners to be able to carry their weapons virtually anywhere including so-called gun-free zones such as sports arenas, schools and churches. There is legislation to allow guns everywhere but after a school shooting last year that was placed on hold.
