Unionized state prison guards and members of other trade unions staged a protest in Lansing Thursday. They want the Governor to fire Aramark Services. The Philadelphia company was brought on board last year to handle foo services at state prisons. A number of state employees lost jobs in the move.
But Aramark has had lots of trouble in Michigan and in other states where it has contracts. It has served poor quality food, some food has had maggots in it, and employees can be a disaster. In Michigan they have been caught in romances with prisoners, and smuggling in contraband.
The governor announced a 200-thousand dollar fine against the company last week. But Aramark can simply write that off as a business expensse.
