Right-handed pitcher Luke Putkonen is scheduled for a rehab assignment with the Whitecaps, the team said Thursday.

"Putkonen is expected to pitch one inning of relief for the Whitecaps during tonight’s road game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field," the team said. "He will be re-evaluated following the performance.

Putkonen was put on the disabled list April 19 following inflammation in his right elbow. He recovered, but had surgery mid-June to remove a bone spur in the same elbow.

The righty went 1-5 with a 4.66 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 48.1 innings over his 44 career appearances at the Major League level.
