The 23-year-old suspect arrested for robbing a bank in downtown Grand Rapids was hospitalized after ingesting drugs, authorities said.

Grand Rapids Police Capt. Peter McWatters said images of David Thomas Saunders captured on a surveillance video and broadcast on local media helped lead them to the 23-year-old.

Saunders allegedly passed a note to a teller at the Lake Michigan Credit Union inside St. Mary's hospital in downtown Grand Rapids and walked off Monday with an undisclosed amount of money. Police say he apologized before getting away.

After two-hours of a police presence, authorities managed to apprehend Saunders near Grand Ave. and Fulton St. N.E. Authorities say he was later hospitalized after ingesting an unknown quantity of unspecified drugs.
