A truck driver struck a power pole this morning, knocking out power to over 4,000 electric customers near downtown Grand Rapids.

The driver, making a delivery at Family Dollar near Michigan and Fuller damaged the power pole, caused lines to snap and fall to the ground near Checkers Hamburgers next door. No one was hurt, but power was knocked out around 10:30. Several businesses are out of power, including WOOD RADIO, much of the Medical Mile and Spectrum Hospital downtown.

"They have back-up generators and we are working with them to keep the areas that feed the hospitals back on. We are always in communication with them when something like this happens."

Consumers Energy Spokesperson Roger Morgenstern tells WOOD Radio some customers will have power restored by 1pm, but the majority of the area affected by the outage will be out of power until late Tuesday afternoon.
