Lawyer Stan Stek in the city of Walker wants to be a Kent County Commissioner.

Stek is the first to announce his Republican candidacy for the 6th Commission District Friday morning, barely 24 hours after Commissioner Mike Wawee announced his resignation,  after being accused of embezzling from an employer.  Earlier, Commissioner Gary Rolls had been accused of criminal sex assault.

Stek told WOOD Radio, "the events of the last month certainly created a significant disatraction, an erosion to some extent in confidence, and a loss of the residents' voice at the County Commission."

Stek's campaign slogan is "restoring the faith".  This morning, he said, "I believe that I've been called to once again serve my community."

The 6th District covers Walker along with voters in the North and West side Grand Rapids.
