A man from Stanton, Kurt Hoffman, 53, was found strapped into his car behind the wheel, but the car was six feet under water.
Montcalm Sheriff's deputies say it had been there at least since Sunday morning, when a passerby reported the car in the Lampman Lake in Sidney Township.
Deputies say that Hoffman's seat belt was on and there were no other occupants in the car.
His family had not seen him since Saturday morning.
Investigation has determined the driver failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway, struck a fallen tree and went into the lake at what appears to be a high rate of speed.
Further details await the autopsy results.
The Sheriff's announcement said that Reverend Hoffman "was a long time and well liked minister for the Trinity Church in Stanton."
