Many people consider this Friday to be "opening day" for the federal income-tax filing season.

CPA Claude Titche, at Beene Garter, tells WOOD Radio News that many people try to file their taxes right away in order to get their refund more quickly. Those who owe money usually wait until the last minute in April.

Among the early-filers, he finds some people using the 1040 form as a weapon in their divorces, claiming the children as dependent before the other parent can.

Titche says even the fears of ID theft motivate some people to file their returns as soon as possible.

But he warns thatyou may find not all the required 1099 and W-2 forms have been sent to you yet.
