A line of thunderstorms that pushed its way through West Michigan left more than 3,000 consumers without power, Consumers Energy said Monday.

The National Weather Service said a system with pea-size hail, strong winds, heavy rains and lightning struck the area hard around 1 p.m.

Consumers Energy reports about 1,300 homes in the Belding area lost power because of the storm system. Power should be restored before 5 p.m., the utility company said.

In Grand Rapids, about 1,700 consumers lost power and there's no information on restoration.

Sporadic outages were also reported in the Rockford area and in an area near Alpine Ave. and Leonard St.

Grand Rapids Police dispatch reported a few wires down in the area.

Consumers can report an outage using the Consumers Energy website or at 1-800-477-5050.
