Grand Rapids Fire Departmet crews were sent to battle a house fire on Bridge Street, near Lane Avenue, around 4:45 a.m.

It was still burning at 7 a.m. and fire officials indicated they likely will be there most of the morning.

WOOD TV learns the  the fire started in a bedroom of the two story apartment house, but there's no specific cause known.

Everyone made it out safely and though firefighters were having a hard time containing the flames.  The roof caved in after 6 a.m. and the incident commander had concern about "exposure loss" to neighboring buildings.

Bridge Street is expected to be shut down in that area for the rest of Thursday's morning commute.
