US 131 was closed for a few hours this Wednesday morning near Allegan just south of the M-89 exit.

Initial reports say two vehicles collided and a badly injured person was helicoptered to the hospital just before midnight.

Michigan State Police Troopers from the Wayland Post now report that the driver of the Mustang, 21 year old Jaryd Ford of Plainwell, died at the scene.  The driver of the pickup truck, 29 year old Jeremy Smeltzer of Portage, was airlifted to Borgess Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There was a passenger in the Mustang; Megan Covey, 26 of Wayland, was transported to Bronson Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The MSP report says two Troopers were enroute to a several reports of the wrong-way pickup truck, further south near Kalamazoo, when it passed them going north in their lane and struck the Mustang head-on shortly after.
