Two persons were hospitalized after a crash in Walker Monday evening.

It happened around 6:35p.m. at the intersection of Leonard Street and Remembrance Road NW, according to a release from the Walker Police Department.

A Grand Rapids 19-year-old was headed west in a Chevrolet Impala at what witnesses told police was a high rate of speed, the release said. It then hit a full-sized Ford pickup truck driven by a Grand Rapids 18-year-old as the truck made a left turn from a private driveway, police said. The truck rolled.

A witness told 24 Hour News 8 the truck went airborne. Witnesses also said there was a dirt bike in the bed of the truck.

Both drivers — the only people involved — sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized, according to police. Witnesses said they were alert and talking before being taken away from the scene in a ambulances.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol was not a factor, but speed was, police said.
