Michigan's Welfare, Food Assistance Caseloads Declining

State Human Services officials say the number of welfare and food assistance recipients continue to decline in the month of December.

Family Independence Program recipients decreased by 2,202 to 96,276, and total program cases also decreased by 860 to 39,257.

In the meantime, food assistance recipients declined by just over 14,945, meaning Michigan now has 1.7 million residents on food assistance.  Total number of food assistance cases is now just under 877,409.

Medicaid recipients also decreased by 5,139 to 1.89 million in December, and cases decreased by 1,490 to 1.1 million.
