Michigan Department of Community Health Director Jim Haveman has resigned.
Governor Rick Snyder announced that Haveman decided to step down to focus on his own health after recently experiencing a mild stroke.Haveman had intended to stay on the job into 2015. His resignation is effective September 12.
Haveman was appointed director of Community Health in 2012. It's the second time he has headed up the agency
Previously, Haveman served as the DCH director from 1996 to 2003. He was the director of the Department of Mental Health from 1991 to 1996.
Community Health Deputy Director Nick Lyon has been named as the new director of the department.
