JJ Redick chose Philly over Houston

JJ Redick joined Doug Gottlieb on The Herd today, and talked a lot about his own personal free agency saga that unfolded this offseason:

"I know a one-year deal is crazy but, for me it wasn't about the money. I really wanted stability for my family. We knew we werenā€™t going to the Clippers when I got the call saying they werenā€™t going to offer me a contract. There werenā€™t any offers long-term on the table that I liked. There was a 3-year deal from Houston. There were a couple of 2-year deals from teams but, nothing that I liked."

According to Redick, the Houston Rockets offered him a 3-year contract to become a part of that team, which would see him get all the shots he wanted alongside Chris Paul and James Harden in a backcourt. Interesting decision when he chose to wind up with the 76ers, a young team who have a lot of promise. Here is what he had to say about Philly:

"I wanted to go to Philly. I thought it was a really unique opportunity. Certainly the one-year deal on a very high number helped. But sort of the chance to be a mentor and sort of show the young guys how to be a pro, but also go play and try and help them win and get to the playoffs, like thatā€™s a really unique challenge at this point in my career."
