Long gone are the days of Charles Barkley saying "I am not a Role Model" and athletes choosing to plead the fifth on political rights questions that could lose them some fans. It seemed a simpler time when the biggest storylines involving major NBA figures lived and died on the court. Now, with the social media activism in today's society and the platform these athletes are given to influence real human rights, the lines between athletes and influencers have been dimmed.
Be warned when approaching any opinion on a non-sports related topic that may have been derived from listening to athletes. Just because they have athleticism doesn't mean they have perspective.
