The 3 SECRETS of How to Get People 2 Remember You

You are networking in a room of people. You have met many of them before and thought you developed a good vibe. However it seems that everyone in the room is asking your name and acting as if they never saw or interacted with you before. Having to explain where you met them before, unsuccessfully jogging their memory…what a bruise to the ego?

Maya Angelou said it best, “People will forget your name, who you are and what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” Getting people to remember you is not always an easy task. Whenever I put together a presentation or speech, I ALWAYS include 3 key components that I also found work in my networking routine; people DO remember me! The 3 secrets and key components to getting people remember you are:

1) Educate- Tell people who you are, what you do and why they would benefit from being connected to knowing you.

2) Empower- Motivation does not always have to come in the form of a long big speech, it can be as simple as a smile. A smile is the first thing between 2 people! Empowerment comes in various forms and can be done by anyone. More than making others feel good on a superficial level, uplifting others to be better is what empowerment is really all about. Speak positively and be supportive do not tear others down.

3) Entertain- After you flash your welcome smile, make sure to have a couple of good stories or witty one-liners that lighten the mood and make others smile or think. Your job is not to be the, know-it- all on every subject or be the bearer of bad news, save any bad news for the newspapers to report. Your job is to be yourself, leave a good impression to make a connection!
