Longtime Radio Personality Don Imus Has Died

2010 AFTRA AMEE Awards - Show

Longtime radio personality Don Imus is dead at the age of 79. He died Friday (December 27) morning at a hospital in College Station, Texas. He was rushed to the hospital on Christmas Eve, and his wife and son were at his side when he passed away. His cause of death has not been disclosed.

Imus was a staple on the radio for 50 years before he retired in 2018. He was known for being a shock jock and found himself embroiled in controversies over his comments.

In 2007, he came under fire for using disparaging remarks when describing the Rutgers women's basketball team. He was suspended from his on-air duties, and his morning show was canceled in the aftermath of the comments.

He returned to the airwaves after eight months and continued to work until he announced his retirement in 2018.

He was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Radio Hall of Fame in 1989.
