Grand Rapids is naming Kyd Kane the city's poet laureate.
She is the first Black woman to hold the position.
Kane says she fell in love with poetry as a young child and now it is the center of her life.
She will serve in the position for three years.
Her first project will be called Elevated Love Language and will involve love language on billboards, posters and screens across the city.
